Geoff Ross was new to The Cricket last Fall and his wood carvings have made a BIG impression. Not too many people walk through the store and don’t stop to admire Geoff’s beautiful wood and copper panels gracing our walls.
What do you see? My carvings don’t necessarily represent animals or spirits found in traditional native art, but my art is neither traditional nor native.
When I was two, my parents adopted my younger brother whom is of Interior Salish descent. As they wanted him to be connected with his heritage, my family experience included native culture and art. As a caucasian artist inspired by First Nation’s art and contemporary design, my goal is to present abstract images asking the viewer what they symbolize. Hopefully, every individual will see something different.
