So today is my hubby’s birthday….anyone else hate shopping for men?? And I’m supposed to be a ‘gift specialist’, given I own my own gift shop. But seriously….men are the worst. Especially after 20-odd years of marriage. There isn’t anything he needs, he buys whatever he wants when he wants, we have no more room for little gimmicky things, nor do I want to waste my money on items that will just get tucked in a drawer, never to be seen again.
You’d think with all the beautiful gifts at my disposal it would be a cinch, but let’s face it…not all men like soaps, pottery and weaving. Motorcycle stores and guitar shops are more my man’s speed – but I don’t know a thing about those interests. So gift cards it is! Which is fine, and he certainly doesn’t complain. I offer them to my own customers all the time if they seem to be struggling with that hard-to-buy-for person. But honestly, no matter how much cash or gift cards may be appreciated by the recipient, I don’t think either of those really compares to the excited anticipation and singular joy of opening up a beautifully wrapped gift!
